Blessed Sacrament Catholic School receives
Certificate of Honorable Mention!
The Eunice
Kennedy Shriver National Center for Community of Caring has selected
Blessed Sacrament Catholic School to receive a Certificate of Honorable
Mention for its participation in the
2009 State/National
Schools of Character (SSOC/NSOC) awards program.
The SSOC review committee received and reviewed applications from
schools and districts who have implemented character education programs of
exceptionally high quality.
Based on the evidence presented in our application, narrative, and
portfolio, the SSOC has awarded us Honorable Mention! Evidence consisted
of completing a lengthy application, 7 page narrative, and 25 page portfolio
based on the Eleven Principles of Character Education.
The judges scored us a 3.4 out of 4.0!
The purpose of the SSOC/NSOC awards program is twofold:
1) to identify exemplary schools and districts to serve as models for
others; and 2) to help schools and districts improve their efforts in
effective character education.
It was evident to the SSOC/NSOC through our portfolio presentation that
character development is integral to our mission.
Our school community should be extremely proud of our innovative
and successful character education ideas and practices.
We have been invited by the SSOC/NSOC to submit our Principal’s
Bobcat 200 Club and Family Mentoring Program to the Character Education
Partnership (CEP) for a Promising Practices award.
The applications for these two programs have been submitted and we
should know by June if we have a winning program.
You may recall that our
Interfaith Meditation Garden won a 2008 National Promising Practice Award.
We would like to share an excerpt from the Community of Caring,
“On behalf of CEP and the Eunice
Kennedy Shriver
National
Center for Community of Caring, we
thank you for your commitment to implementing a quality character education
initiative and helping form good character in Utah’s
youth.” If you would like to view a copy of our application, please
contact
Sonia West, who will be happy to show it to you!

- National Science Mobile Discovery
Center in Georgia is bringing their mobile science lab to Blessed Sacrament
School on October 3! Housed in 18-wheelers, the mobile centers travel across
the country, presenting programs designed to show young people that studying
science and math is fun as well as essential to their future. This is a
hands-on, interactive science demonstration. This is a part of the Outreach
program sponsored by the National Science Center and the U.S. Army.
